In 2015, Flipkart went through massive layoffs at different levels. It has slashed its manpower from 15000 to 8000. After two years of layoff, now the Indian e-commerce giant is on hiring plan for more than 700 employees in Yr 18-19.
The current hiring plan will strengthen the AI (Artificial Intelligence) Powered Solution of the company. About 50 positions are reserved for Data science.
The Sachin Bansal led company, Flipkart, is in news for all good reasons in last few months. It was ranked 2nd among the Top 25 Companies –Where India Wants to Work Now, a list published by LinkedIn.
The deal from Walmart Inc. is another big positive thing happening to Flipkart. If the deal happens then Walmart Inc will become the largest shareholder in the company. This will strengthen the position Flipkart and will help to fight with rivals like Amazon.
Last year (2017), the company had participated in campus recruitment at IIT Delhi and ISB. The offers made were very decent.
Flipkart had reduced the headcount in the year 2015. A massive cut in existing manpower and delayed offer letter for already recruited employees, made a negative image of the organisation.
The company has made a huge loss of (approx. $ 3.6 Billion) in the Year 2016-17. However the company raised funds of $ 6.1 Billion, but the moves were made cautious.
Now Flipkart is under pressure to turn in to a profitable business. Association with Walmart Inc (if it happens), will help in scaling up the company.
